First aid is the initial care for an illness or injury. It is often performed by non-expert, but trained or informed personnel to a sick or injured person until definitive medical treatment can be accessed. Certain minor injuries may not require further medical care past the first aid intervention. First Aid generally consists of a series of simple, and in some cases, potentially life-saving techniques that an individual can be trained to perform with minimal equipment.

The Urgent First Aid Guide includes content developed for the ‘Stop the Bleed’ campaign which was initiated by a federal interagency workgroup convened by the National Security Council Staff, The White House, and with participation of Writers and Editors of this guide. The purpose of the campaign is to build national resilience by better preparing the public to save lives by raising awareness of basic actions to stop life threatening bleeding following everyday emergencies and man-made and natural disasters. Advances made by military medicine and research in hemorrhage control during the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have informed the work of this initiative which exemplifies translation of knowledge back to the homeland to the benefit of the general public. The Department of the Defense owns the ‘Stop the Bleed’ logo and phrase.
From minor injuries and ailments to life-threatening emergencies, this 52 page full color ANSI & OSHA First Aid Guide Book covers what you need to know in a fast and easy to follow format to help lay responders assisting others that become suddenly ill or injured.
